How to get to Ubud, Bali?

Getting to Ubud, Bali, is pretty straightforward, but it does require some planning since there’s no airport in Ubud itself. Here’s how you can get there:

1. Fly to Bali (Ngurah Rai International Airport – DPS)

The closest airport to Ubud is Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Bali. It’s the island’s main airport and is well-connected to major international and domestic destinations.

Getting to Ubud afterwards is relatively easy, here are the most common ways to reach Ubud:

2. Getting from the Airport to Ubud

  • By Car or Taxi: the quickest and most convenient way to get to Ubud from Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) is by car or taxi. The drive usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic.

Private Transfer (Recommended): If you prefer to get to Ubud by private transfer from the airport, I usually use this company.

  • By Shuttle or Ride-Hailing Apps: If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, shuttle services or ride-hailing apps like Grab and Gojek are also available.

3. Coming from Other Parts of Bali

Whenever we’re in Bali, we either a private transfer or use Grab to get around, it’s the easiest way to move from one part of the island to another. I usually organise a private transfer so there’s no need to negotiate prices or stress about finding a ride.

Private Transfer (Recommended): If you prefer to get to Ubud by private transfer from another city in Bali, I usually use this company.

4. Where to Rent a Scooter in Ubud

Renting a scooter in Ubud is the easiest way to get around, especially with all the traffic. If you’re comfortable riding, it’s super convenient and affordable, around 100k IDR per day (€5,50 aprox.) the last time we were there (march 2025).

We rented ours from a place that a close friend recommended, this is the contact Made Armani (+62 851-0119-2199), and had a good experience! You can text him on WhatsApp. This is only our recommendation, it is not a collaboration. There are so many options that it can be difficult to choose one.

If you can’t drive, the best alternative is Grab Motorbike, it’s like Uber but on a scooter, and honestly, it’s pretty cool. Just hop on the back, and you’ll weave through traffic in no time!

Staying at Villa Be Bali Hut Farm Stay was such a unique experience! We spent 2 days in Ubud here, completely surrounded by nature, and it was honestly one of the most peaceful stays I’ve ever had. Waking up to the sounds of the jungle, spotting monkeys during breakfast, and even seeing some cute little lizards, it really felt like I was in my own private jungle!

The setting is so calm and secluded, perfect if you’re looking for a break from the busy world. The breakfast was amazing (you literally get whatever you ask for!), and having an in-room massage while listening to the sounds of nature? Incredible, Lol. If you’re traveling on a budget, stay here! Definitely one of the most unique places to stay in Ubud. 🙂

The outdoor shower was SO dreamy, the pool area was so peaceful, and the bed? Apparently, the comfiest they had on their whole trip! It’s also just a short walk to the main part of Ubud. If you’re looking for a quiet stay and you love design, stay here! You won’t be disappointed.

Our stay at Villa Wastra in North Ubud, even though it was just for one night, left us with memories that will last a lifetime. One of the highlights of our short stay was the home-cooked dinner we had here. It turned out to be one of the best meals we had during our entire trip!

The experience here felt more like staying with family than being at a hotel, and we truly loved how we could immerse ourselves in the local culture and food. Other Things to Know before visiting Ubud, Bali

𑁍 Best Things to Do in Ubud:

Ubud is hands down my favorite area of Bali, it’s the perfect mix of nature and Balinese culture. We spent so much time exploring, meeting local people and I can’t recommend it enough.

First off, Tegallalang Rice Terraces are a must-see. The views are just breathtaking, and you can totally see why it’s one of Bali’s most iconic spots. We also loved walking through the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, those cheeky monkeys are everywhere! It’s like stepping into a little jungle oasis.

If you’re into peaceful vibes, the Campuhan Ridge Walk is one of the best ways to clear your head. The views are unreal, and it’s just so calm. We also spent a lot of time wandering around Ubud Market, picking up local art and handmade souvenirs.

And don’t even get me started on the food! There are so many cozy cafés to try. After a day of exploring, we treated ourselves to a Balinese massage and wow, it’s a game-changer. The Spa we usually go is called Widi Spa. It is simple (not luxurious) and very good value for money. UR Spa Ubud is another Spa we love.

Another highlight was visiting Goa Gajah, the Elephant Cave, it’s a beautiful blend of history and culture, and it’s so peaceful there. 𑁍 Where to Eat Good Local Food in Ubud:

If you’re wondering where to eat in Ubud, we mostly go for local warungs, they serve amazing food, are super affordable, and have that authentic Balinese feel. Warung Rama is a great family-owned spot with simple but delicious local dishes.

Bali Bohemia is a cute café with a cozy atmosphere, tasty food, and live music on some nights. Warung Be Pasih Ubud is always packed, which is a good sign, great local flavors at super affordable prices.

One of our favorites is Adi Warung, also family-run, where the food is not only delicious but beautifully presented. And if you’re looking for something a little more high-end, Kebun Bistro is a great choice for a more refined dining experience.

𑁍 Best Time of year to Visit Ubud:

The best time to visit Ubud is during the dry season: from April to October, when the weather is warm, with less humidity and minimal rainfall—perfect for exploring rice fields, temples, and waterfalls.

July and August are the busiest months, bringing more tourists and higher hotel prices, while the shoulder months (April-June, September-October) offer great weather with fewer crowds.

The rainy season (November to March) makes everything lush and green, but expect heavy rain, especially in December and January. If you want the best of both worlds—beautiful landscapes and comfortable weather—April and May, right after the rainy season, are ideal for visiting Ubud.

We have visited in both seasons and our favorite months are March and April, as we prefer to escape the crowds! The last time we visited was during March and although it rained, there wasn’t a lot of tourism in the city and that made it much more enjoyable!
