We spent nearly a full week in Delhi and stayed at several different hotels along the way, specifically to get a real feel for the city and find the best places to stay.

Even with that time, it felt like we had only scratched the surface. Between historic monuments, vibrant neighborhoods, markets, museums, and endless places to eat, New Delhi is a city you could explore for a lifetime.

Getting to New Delhi

  • Flight: Most travelers arrive via Indira Gandhi International Airport, which has excellent domestic and international connections and quick access to the city by taxi or Airport Express Metro.

Getting Around Delhi

Getting around New Delhi is straightforward thanks to its excellent transport options. The Delhi Metro is the fastest, cleanest, and most affordable way to travel across the city, while Uber and Ola are widely available and convenient for door-to-door trips. Auto-rickshaws are great for short distances, and many hotels can also arrange private drivers for a more comfortable, stress-free experience.

Bungalow 99 is one of my favorite boutique hotels in New Delhi, and Defense Colony is hands down my favorite area in the city. The neighborhood feels peaceful, safe, and local, yet you’re just a short walk from great cafés, restaurants, and shops.

Bungalow 99 itself feels more like a beautiful private home than a hotel, with very nice rooms, cozy shared living spaces, and a lovely breakfast to start the day.

Bungalow 157 is another boutique hotel in Defence Colony, which is genuinely my favorite area to stay in Delhi, safe, leafy, and full of great cafés, shops, and local life. I love how calm and residential it feels, yet everything you need is just a short walk away.

The rooms here are beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable, and the shared living spaces make it feel more like a stylish home than a hotel. This is one of those places I recommend to friends and would happily return to every time I’m in Delhi.

The rooftop is a lovely spot to slow down, breakfast was generous and delicious (don’t skip the banana bread), and the staff made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived. Staying at Haveli Dharampura is an experience in itself. Set deep in the lanes of Chandni Chowk, it feels like stepping back into Mughal-era Delhi. The haveli itself is stunning, the food is genuinely top-notch, and the staff are warm and attentive from start to finish.

Even in the chaos of Old Delhi, it feels surprisingly peaceful once inside. Little touches like Kathak performances, kite flying on the terrace, and exceptional dinners make the experience feel curated rather than touristy.
