I’m originally from Madrid, but I spent a year living in Milan thanks to a scholarship for young entrepreneurs from the EU. During that time, I traveled all around Italy, and I quickly fell in love with the beauty of Tuscany.

There’s something truly special about staying in a charming agriturismo, enjoying the local cuisine, and soaking up the authentic Tuscan lifestyle.

For me, spring and summer are the perfect seasons to visit this region, whether it’s wandering through Florence’s beautiful streets or relaxing in the peaceful countryside.

In this guide, I’ll share some of the best agriturismos in Tuscany that I’ve discovered throughout the years (my favorites!), places that make you feel right at home while being UNIQUE and giving you a taste of true Italian charm. Keep reading!

Getting to and Around Florence and Tuscany

The easiest way to get to Florence and Tuscany is by flight (to Florence), train, or bus.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of trains, Europe’s rail connections are fantastic, and it’s always a pleasure to travel while enjoying the scenery. In Italy and Spain trains work really well! I usually buy my train tickets here.

That said, for exploring Tuscany itself, I really recommend renting a car. Many of the most charming villages, vineyards, and agriturismos are tucked away in the countryside, and having your own wheels makes it so much easier to discover them at your own pace.

Villa Cozzano has been in the family since 1543, initially serving as a home for farmers tending to the surrounding lands. Over the centuries, it transformed into a cultural center where families from Tuscany and Umbria gathered. The Lazzerini family not only hosted peasants but also operated as the main vendor for Cozzano’s products.

The villa played a significant role during difficult times, providing shelter for those escaping both world wars. Following urbanization post-war, the villa was abandoned until a restoration project led by Manuela Lazzerini and Cristiano Fabrizi from 1996 to 2013 revived it. Today, Cozzano welcomes guests from around the world and its one of my favorite agriturismos in Tuscany!

Monteverdi Tuscany is easily one of the best agriturismos in Tuscany and truly feels like a little slice of paradise. Hotel Certosa Di Maggiano is easily one of the best agriturismos in Tuscany and honestly feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Set in a former monastery just outside Siena, surrounded by olive groves and rolling hills, the whole place is incredibly charming and peaceful.

The interiors are beautiful and slightly quirky in the best way (I love this!) and the gardens and views are simply stunning. The restaurant is fantastic and summer days here are perfect for swimming, playing tennis, or just slowing down and enjoying the Tuscan countryside.

Castello di Vicarello is honestly one of those places that feels like the Tuscan dream come to life and definitely belongs on my list of the best agriturismos in Tuscany. Hidden in the rolling Maremma hills, this beautifully restored castle is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, with gorgeous suites, gardens, and a stunning pool overlooking the countryside.

The food and wine are incredible, the atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, and because there are only a handful of rooms everything feels very personal. The family and team running the place are so warm and attentive too. Highly recommended!

Borgo Pignano is one of those places that really feels like pure Tuscan magic. Set on a huge historic estate near Volterra, surrounded by beautiful hills, forests, and gardens, the views, especially at sunset, are absolutely unforgettable.

The spaces are romantic and super authentic with beautiful artwork and frescoes, and there’s also a lovely wellness area with a sauna, steam room, and hammam. Borgo Vescine is a charming little hamlet turned boutique agriturismo in the heart of Chianti, surrounded by vineyards and peaceful countryside. Best Time to Visit Tuscany, Italy

For me, the best time to visit Tuscany is in spring or early summer. The countryside comes alive with vibrant colors, the weather is warm but not too hot, and everything just feels more relaxed.

Autumn is also beautiful, especially if you love wine and food, since it’s harvest season, but I personally love the fresh, blooming landscapes of spring.

If you’re planning to explore Florence as well, visiting outside the peak summer months means fewer crowds and a much more enjoyable experience.

Traveling around Italy and Final Thoughts

Having spent a lot of time traveling around Italy, from Rome’s historic streets to the stunning Aeolian Islands, of course Milan, the Amalfi Coast’s cliffside villages, the dramatic peaks of the Dolomites, and the magical canals of Venice, I’ve come to appreciate how wonderfully diverse the country is.
