Canggu has always been one of my favorite places in Bali. The mix of surf culture, rice fields views from a yoga Shala (my favorite in Bali),, stylish cafés and beautiful stores creates an energy that’s really cool!
Every time I visit, I love staying in boutique hotels in Canggu because they offer something more personal—beautiful design, a homey feel, and always, the warmest hospitality. On my last trip, I stayed in a small boutique hotel just a short walk from the beach, where the owners greeted me with fresh coconut water and insider tips on the best sunset spots. The food in Bali is amazing too!

Getting to and Around Canggu, Bali
How to Get to Canggu, Bali
Getting to Canggu, Bali, is pretty straightforward, but it does require some planning since there’s no airport in Canggu itself. Here’s how you can get there:
1. Fly to Bali (Ngurah Rai International Airport – DPS)
The closest airport to Canggu is Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, Bali. It’s the island’s main airport and is well-connected to major international and domestic destinations.
Every time we have visited we have flown Qatar Airways and it is always a good experience. Sometimes we combine it with Iberia Airlines, from Madrid to Doha. This is why we offer our readers 5% off on all Qatar Airways flights! This is awesome!
Plus here is our free guide about where to stay 1 day in Doha, Qatar, if you have a long stopover like we sometimes do. If your stopover is in Singapore, then check out this blog post about the most unique hotels in Singapore:
2. Getting from the Airport to Canggu
Canggu is about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours from the airport, depending on traffic. Here are your best options:
Private Driver (Recommended) – The easiest and most comfortable way is to arrange a private driver. Most boutique hotels in Canggu offer airport transfers, or you can book one in advance via WhatsApp or Grab. Prices range from IDR 300K–350K ($15–$22).
We normally hire a trusted driver and he is really nice! The price is usually 300-350K depending on where you are going in Canggu. Contact him on whatsApp: Nengah Jana +62 857-3908-6409. He can also take you on day trips around the island.
Ride-Share Apps (Grab & Gojek) – While ride-hailing apps like Grab and Gojek are widely used in Bali, they’re not always welcome at the airport. You may need to walk to the designated pickup area outside. A Grab car to Canggu costs around IDR 200K–300K ($12–$18). We usually use Grab and it works well!
Bluebird Taxi – Official Bluebird taxis are metered and reliable. Expect to pay around IDR 250K–350K ($15–$22).
3. Coming from Other Parts of Bali
From Seminyak or Kuta – A short 20–40 minute drive by car or scooter.
From Ubud – About 1–1.5 hours by car. We used Grab for this.
From Uluwatu – Around 1.5–2 hours by car. Grab too!
No matter how you get to Canggu, be prepared for Bali’s unpredictable traffic, especially in the afternoons and around sunset. Once you arrive, you’ll quickly see why this laid-back beach town is worth the journey!
Where to Rent a Scooter in Canggu?
Renting a scooter in Canggu is the easiest way to get around, especially with all the traffic. If you’re comfortable riding, it’s super convenient and affordable—100k IDR per day (around €5) the last time we were there (march 2025).
We rented ours from a place that a close friend recommended, the owner is called Wayan (+62 859-3371-2494), and had a good experience! You can text him on WhatsApp. This is only our recommendation, it is not a collaboration.
There are so many options that it can be difficult to choose one. If you can’t drive, the best alternative is Grab Motorbike—it’s like Uber but on a scooter, and honestly, it’s pretty cool. Just hop on the back, and you’ll weave through traffic in no time!

Other Things to Know before visiting Canggu, Bali
𑁍 Best Things to do in Canggu:
Canggu is the perfect blend of laid-back surf culture, creative energy, and tropical beauty. Start your day catching waves at Batu Bolong or Echo Beach, then grab a smoothie bowl at one of the many stylish cafés.
Explore the lush rice fields by scooter, unwind with a sunset drink at La Brisa or The Lawn, and dive into Canggu’s buzzing wellness scene with yoga or a sound healing session.
Don’t miss the vibrant markets, boutique shopping, and incredible dining options, from organic eateries to beachfront seafood grills.
𑁍 Where to Eat in Canggu:
Canggu’s food scene is pure magic—every meal feels like a treat, whether you’re after a slow brunch or a vibrant dinner. Milk & Madu is my go-to for cozy mornings; their ricotta pancakes are pure indulgence. Brunch Club Bali serves the fluffiest soufflé pancakes—I still dream about them! At Ruko Cafe, I always get their avo toast with poached eggs, perfect before a beach day. Miel Coffee is my little escape for a quiet coffee break; their flat whites are perfection. For fresh, colorful meals, The Shady Shack never disappoints—try the halloumi bowl! Rize Bali makes the best smoothie bowls, perfect after yoga. If I’m craving local flavors, Warung Sika’s nasi campur is unbeatable. For something different, HoiAn by MeVui has the best Vietnamese pho, so comforting after a long day. Lena’s Kitchen is my surprise find—simple, delicious food in a laid-back space. And when I want something guilt-free yet satisfying, Nude Canggu’s chicken satay bowl always hits the spot. Every place on this list has made my time in Canggu unforgettable!
𑁍 Best Time of year to Visit Canggu:
The best time to visit Canggu is during the dry season, from May to September, when the weather is sunny, humidity is lower, and the waves are perfect for surfing. July and August are the busiest months, with a lively atmosphere and plenty of events. If you prefer fewer crowds but still want great weather, May, June, and September are ideal. The rainy season (November to March) brings tropical downpours, but Canggu still has a laid-back charm, with lush green landscapes and fewer tourists. I once visited in January and now I will visit again in March 2025 (in only two weeks at the time of writing), and while the rains were heavy at times, the slower pace and cozy café days made it special. It all depends on the kind of experience you’re looking for! I prefer visiting places with less tourists, during low seasons.

Best eSim option in Indonesia - Cheap and good eSim
When we visited Canggu, we use this eSIM, and it was a total game-changer! Their eSIM plans start as low as $5 in Indonesia, making it an affordable and hassle-free way to stay connected. No more searching for local SIM cards or dealing with slow WiFi—setup was instant, and we had reliable service for navigating to beach clubs, booking scooters, and staying in touch.
If you're heading to Bali, we highly recommend this eSIM! Stay connected effortlessly—grab yours now and travel stress-free! Check it out here :)

I love exploring places that feel a bit off the beaten path, and destinations like Georgia, Saudi Arabia, and Sri Lanka have completely captivated me. Walking through Tbilisi’s charming old streets or hiking in the Caucasus mountains feels like stepping into a hidden world of history and nature.
In Saudi Arabia, the contrast between the ancient rock formations of AlUla and the futuristic energy of Riyadh is fascinating, while the untouched beaches along the Red Sea are a surprise most people don’t expect. And then there’s Sri Lanka, a country bursting with color—from the tea plantations of Ella to the wild safaris of Yala, where spotting elephants never gets old.
