Granada Airport – Officially called Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport.
Small regional airport with flights from Madrid, Barcelona, and some European cities (e.g. Paris, London).
From the airport, you can take a bus or taxi (~20–30 minutes to city center).
Alternative: Málaga Airport – A major international airport (~1.5–2 hours away).
Then take a direct bus, train, or rental car to Granada. I took a train once I was flying out of Málaga to go to Ibiza and the buses worked fine!
🚆 By Train:
From Madrid: AVE high-speed train via Antequera (~3.5–4.5 hours). This is what I usually take to go to Granada easily from Madrid.
From Seville or Málaga: Regional trains available (but buses are usually faster).
🚌 By Bus:
ALSA is the main company.
Frequent, comfortable, and usually cheaper than trains.
From Madrid (~5 hours), Málaga (~1.5–2 hours), Seville (~3 hours), Barcelona (~13 hours overnight option).
🚗 By Car:
From Málaga: ~1.5 hours
From Seville: ~2.5 hours
From Madrid: ~4–5 hours

While a car isn’t necessary to explore Granada itself, it’s a great option if you’re combining your visit with nearby attractions, towns or the white villages of Andalusia. Rental services are available at major airports and city centers. Be mindful of limited parking in the old town..

Fall offers a similar charm with fewer tourists, allowing you to enjoy the city's attractions with less crowds.
Summer (June to August) can be very hot, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C (95°F). However, it’s a great time to experience Granada’s vibrant nightlife and outdoor activities if you can handle the heat.
