How to Get to Berlin, Germany

Getting to Berlin by Air

The quickest way to get to Berlin is by flying into Berlin Brandenburg Airport, which has plenty of direct flights from all major European cities and many long-haul destinations.

From Spain, I usually fly with Iberia Express, Vueling, Volotea and Iberia. Once you arrive, you can hop on the airport express train or S-Bahn and be in the city center in under 30 minutes.

Getting to Berlin by Train or Bus

If youā€™re already in Germany (or somewhere nearby in Europe), the train is my favorite way to get to Berlin. The main station, Berlin Hauptbahnhof, is a stunning glass-and-steel hub, and the high-speed trains connect you easily to cities like Hamburg, Munich, or Frankfurt. Last time I visited, in summer 2025, I arrived to Berlin by train from Frankfurt šŸ™‚

I use this app when I travel by train around Europe (even when going from country to country) and it is so easy!! I love having all my tickets in the same place

For a budget-friendly option, buses like FlixBus run routes from cities across Germany and Europe. Itā€™s usually the cheapest choice, though it usually takes longer than the train. I usually buy them in the same site where I buy my train tickets.

Getting Around Kreuzberg, Berlin

Kreuzberg is one of those neighborhoods you just have to explore on foot, youā€™ll find beautiful courtyards, street art on every corner, and cafĆ©s that tempt you to stop every five minutes. Public transport is fantastic too, with U-Bahn and bus stops everywhere, so you can zip across the city without a car.

If you want to cover more ground but still keep it slow, try cycling. We always use the Call a Bike app when visiting Berlin (not an affiliate link, just a recommendation because I love exploring cities by bike!)

You can unlock a bike right from your phone, pick it up at one station, and drop it off at another. Itā€™s perfect for weaving through Kreuzbergā€™s streets or riding along the Landwehr Canal on a sunny day.

Renting a Car in Kreuzberg, Berlin

If you are only going to visit Berlin, I wouldnā€™t rent a car just for Kreuzberg or even central Berlin, itā€™s walkable, well-connected, and parking is not very easy. But if youā€™re planning to explore beyond the city (like day trips to Potsdam, Spreewald, or the Baltic coast), then renting a car for a couple of days can be a great idea!

If you want a mix of luxury and local Berlin charm, Orania.Berlin in Kreuzberg is perfect. Itā€™s in a historic building from 1913 with an artsy past, and the vibe is stylish yet cozy. Cinderella.Kreuzberg is such a charming little guest house in a quiet courtyard, so youā€™re far from street noise but still right in the heart of Kreuzberg. The rooms are very cozy, with beautiful bathrooms and lots of character, itā€™s actually in a former chocolate factory, which makes it even cooler. Locke at East Side Gallery is one of those places you instantly feel good about when you walk in. The design is gorgeous, the rooms have everything you need (little kitchen, comfy bed, even laundry downstairs), and if youā€™re lucky, youā€™ll get a balcony with an amazing river view. Youā€™ve got the Berlin Wall right outside, plus trams and stations to get anywhere easily. The vibe is very nice and lots of digital nomads! Also very good value for money.

Best Time of year to Visit one of the Unique Boutique hotels in Kreuzberg, Berlin

Berlin has its magic all year round, but Berlin, and Kreuzberg in particular, truly comes alive from late spring to early autumn (Mayā€“September). This is when cafĆ© terraces spill onto the sidewalks, the parks are full of life, and you can enjoy the cityā€™s many outdoor markets, street festivals, and riverside hangouts.

If you love warm, sunny days for exploring on foot or by bike, July and August are perfectā€”though also the busiest. For a more relaxed vibe (and slightly better hotel rates), late May to June or September are ideal.

Winter in Kreuzberg has its own charm tooā€”cosy cafĆ©s, art galleries, and Christmas markets make it feel extra atmospheric, especially if you like fewer crowds and donā€™t mind bundling up.

  • I have both visited in August and February, and liked the city in both seasons but would definitely recommend summer!!
