Discover the 9 most unique and dreamy ADULTS-ONLY hotels in Costa del Sol, from peaceful rural retreats to boutique Málaga stays and luxury escapes in Marbella.

Are you planning an adults-only trip to Costa del Sol? As someone from Madrid, I’ve spent a lot of time there—my work office was in Málaga for years, so I know the area pretty well.

Plus, I’ve visited Marbella tons of times with friends since it’s such a popular spot for people from Madrid who have summer homes there. In my opinion, the best thing about Costa del Sol is that the weather is amazing almost all year round—warm, sunny, and perfect even in winter when the rest of Spain is chilly. I once visited in Christmas and people were sunbathing, lol.

So whether you’re after a peaceful, rural and romatic escape with your partner or a chic beachside stay with friends, in this article I’ve rounded up my favorite and best adults-only hotels in Costa del Sol that make for a perfect getaway in this beautiful region of Andalucía.

Getting to and Around Málaga, Spain

How to Get to Málaga, Spain

Málaga is well-connected by several convenient transportation options:

  • By Air: Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is one of Spain’s busiest airports, with many international and domestic flights. From Madrid, direct flights take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. If you prefer flying to Madrid, Mallorca, Ibiza or Barcelona we recommend using Iberia ExpressVueling, Volotea and Iberia.

  • By Train: The AVE high-speed train connects Madrid’s Atocha Station to Málaga María Zambrano Station in roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. It’s a fast and comfortable way to travel across the Spanish countryside. We offer our readers a 5% off Discount Code: CJ007 on TrainPal app..

  • By Bus: Several bus companies operate routes from major cities to Málaga. While travel times are longer than trains, buses can be a budget-friendly option. I buy my bus tickets in Spain here!

  • By Car: Driving from Madrid to Málaga takes about 5 to 6 hours via the A-4 and A-45 highways. The route is scenic and well-maintained, perfect for those who enjoy a road trip through Andalusia.

𑁍 Irene's Tip: For the best experience, travel to Málaga by train from Madrid or Córdoba, or rent a car if you're continuing a longer Andalusian road trip. Check out our Southern Spain Itinerary 10 days blog post with maps and itineraries.

Getting Around and Renting a Car in Málaga

Málaga’s city center is easy to explore on foot, but renting a car is great if you want to visit nearby towns or explore Andalusia. Parking can be tricky, so use public parking when possible.

Day trips to Ronda, Nerja, or the white villages are just a short drive away. For longer trips, check out our Southern Spain Itinerary 10 days blog post with maps and itineraries.

For a 10% off in OK mobility car rental use this code: CJOKRAC. In Centauro we also offer our readers a 15% discount and this one is automatic, you don''t have to insert a code. If you prefer other companies, take a look at this site, powered by booking.com, to compare cheap car rentals.

𑁍 Frequently Asked Questions About Visiting Costa del Sol

  1. Do I need a car to get around?

It depends where you're staying. If you’re just in Marbella, Málaga, or along the main towns, public transport or taxis work fine. But if you want to explore the mountains, small villages, or hidden beaches — renting a car is a good idea.

  1. Is Costa del Sol safe?

Yes, it’s generally very safe. Just use common sense, like anywhere else — keep an eye on your belongings in crowded spots.

  1. Are there any adults-only hotels or quiet stays?

Yes! There are lots of adults-only and boutique stays in the area — especially inland or in smaller towns like Monda or Mijas. Check out our post above!

  1. Where are the best beaches?

There are endless options — my favorites are Playa de Cabopino for something quieter, Playa del Cristo in Estepona for calm waters, or the famous Nikki Beach if you want the full beach club experience.

  1. What’s typical food in the region?

I love fresh fish (try espeto — sardines grilled on the beach), salmorejo (a thicker version of gazpacho), and lots of tapas. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are easier to find these days, especially in bigger towns.

  1. Is Costa del Sol good for hiking or nature?

Definitely! The mountains behind Marbella and around Mijas are great for hikes. There’s also the famous Caminito del Rey trail near Málaga for something more adventurous.
