How to Get to Málaga, Spain

Málaga is well-connected by several convenient transportation options:

  • By Air: Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is one of Spain’s busiest airports, with many international and domestic flights. From Madrid, direct flights take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. If you prefer flying from Madrid, Mallorca, Ibiza or Barcelona we recommend using Iberia Express, Vueling, Volotea and Iberia.
  • By Train: The AVE high-speed train connects Madrid’s Atocha Station to Málaga María Zambrano Station in roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. It’s a fast and comfortable way to travel across the Spanish countryside.
  • By Bus: Several bus companies operate routes from major cities to Málaga. While travel times are longer than trains, buses can be a budget-friendly option. I buy my bus tickets in Spain here!

We stayed at The Pearl Marbella once and absolutely loved it. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot just outside the city, with a cozy, vintage-chic vibe. Our garden bungalow felt like a private little retreat, and the whole place has such a warm atmosphere. You’ll need a car to get into town, but it’s worth it. It’s also pet friendly!

Best Time of year to Visit Adult Only Hotels in Costa del Sol

Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are ideal, warm, sunny, and not too crowded. Summer is great for beach lovers, but it can get really hot and busy.

I also love visiting in winter as it is much warmer in this region of Spain compared to others. 🙂 Christmas is a cool moment to visit. It is usually quite warm as I mentioned from experience in the introduction.

Yes, it’s generally very safe. Just use common sense, like anywhere else — keep an eye on your belongings in crowded spots.

There are endless options, my favorites are Playa de Cabopino for something quieter, Playa del Cristo in Estepona for calm waters, or the famous Nikki Beach if you want the full beach club experience.

What’s typical food in the region?

I love fresh fish (try espeto, sardines grilled on the beach), salmorejo (a thicker version of gazpacho), and lots of tapas. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are easier to find these days, especially in bigger towns.

Is Costa del Sol good for hiking or nature?

Definitely! The mountains behind Marbella and around Mijas are great for hikes. There’s also the famous Caminito del Rey trail near Málaga for something more adventurous.
