Getting to and Around Provence, France

I usually drive from Barcelona, which makes for a beautiful road trip and means I already have a car once I arrive, something I highly recommend for exploring the region. Provence is full of small villages, vineyards, markets, and countryside spots that are much easier to reach with your own vehicle.

If you’re coming from farther away, the easiest option is to fly into Marseille Provence Airport (I usually choose Iberia, Iberia Express, Vueling and Volotea from Spain) and rent a car from there. Having a car really gives you the freedom to explore Provence at your own pace and discover beautiful villages!

The best time to visit Provence is from May to June and September to early October, when the weather is warm, the landscapes are beautiful, and the crowds are smaller than in peak summer.

If you want to see the famous lavender fields, plan your trip for late June to mid-July, when they are usually in full bloom across areas like Luberon and the Valensole Plateau.

July and August are lively and vibrant but also the busiest months, while spring and early autumn offer a more relaxed atmosphere with perfect weather for exploring villages, markets, and vineyards.

Traveling around France is always a joy, with each region offering its own character, landscapes, and cuisine.
